Mark Beaumont is a well known Scottish broadcaster and adventurer who has been supporting Orkidstudio since 2010. Mark shot to fame when he broke the Guiness World Record for the fastest circumnavigation by bicycle - 18,296 miles in 194 days and 17 hours. Since then he has also rowed through the Artic, cycles from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, climbed the highest mountains of North and South America and narrowly survived after capsizing mid-Atlantic. Mark is passionate about inspiring young people to take on their dreams and also works with a number of charities. Both Mark Beaumont and James Mitchell, founder of Orkidstudio, have family roots in the town of Kilmacolm, near Glasgow.
"I love the imagination and effort that goes into Orkidstudio projects - it is all about creating sustainable buildings which become the heart of the communities, made predominantly by locals. Architecture and innovative design are not things that get much attention in parts of Africa, South America and other places the Orkidstudio plan to work in. And yet, with Orkidstudio's expert guidance, enthusiastic volunteers and hard earned fundraising, it is incredible to see what they can create"
